Entertainer and charity fundraiser caught over the limit
AN entertainer who raises funds for charity is off the road for 16 months after he was caught drink-driving.
David Anthony Nacey straddled the centre line in his car three times for no obvious reason in front of a police patrol car, said prosecutor Ann Darwin. After they pulled him up to find out why, he gave a breath test that was nearly twice the alcohol limit.
Nacey, 52, of Coggan Close, South Bank, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and not having a test certificate and was banned from driving for 16 months.
York magistrates also fined him £185 with a £15 victim surcharge and £45 prosecution costs. He told the court he worked at a bookmakers and also did occasional work as an entertainer raising funds for charities, and sick children's facilities at York Hospital.
He had been invited to have a drink on April 19, the day he was stopped, and he had a "couple too many". The court was told he did not drink and drive as a rule. He said it was an oversight that his car did not have an MOT certificate, and he had it tested on April 20.
Mrs Darwin said police followed Nacey for a mile along Huntington Road at about 20 metres behind him. During that time, he straddled the centre line three times.
After the third time, they pulled him up.
