A NORTH Yorkshire student has won a place on a university course that has only 40 spaces available worldwide.
Jamie Shepherd, 18, of Riccall, near York, has been accepted on University College London’s biochemical engineering degree course.
Jamie, who attended Bootham School, in York, achieved a B grade in A-Level Physics, an As in Biology and Art & Design, and a B in Mathematics.
Jamie will begin the course next September, after taking a gap year, during which he hopes to spend time in Africa teaching people about how to protect themselves against HIV.
Jamie’s mother, Veronica Shepherd, 54, said: “I’m very proud.”
