IT was no real surprise Tom Hodgson got your votes as July’s Press player of the month.
The hooker put in another superb shift against Swinton Lions, while keeping up his phenomenal try-scoring feats.
His score against the Lions brought his tally to eight in eight National League Two substitute appearances since his elevation to the first team – and that is form which has definitely caught your eye.
It has also helped him climb further up the ladder in the Press/K Walker&Co Player of the Year standings. The two points he picked up from the Swinton game bring him level with Ryan Esders and Danny Grimshaw on six points.
But there was only one man of the match last weekend – player-coach Paul March.
His superb bossing of the game, scoring two tries and having a hand in many others, deservedly brought him three points to tag the coat-tails of current leader Lee Mapals.
It is really tight at the top with only two points separating the leading three players.
Matt Applegarth, now showing the form which brought Super League appearances at Wakefield, picked up the remaining point.
Press/K Walker&Co Player of the Year standings: Mapals 18 points, P March 17, Buckley 16, Spicer 14, Ekis 14, D March 11, Divorty 10, Applegarth 9, Oakes 7, Hughes 7, Ratcliffe 7, Lewis 7, Esders 6, Grimshaw 6, Hodgson 6, Sullivan 3, Rhodes 3, Grice 3, Greenwood 1.
